What does “natural English” mean?

“Natural English” means the way native speakers actually talk and write in real life.

It is:

  • clear
  • simple
  • direct
  • commonly used
  • sounds native and not strange

In IELTS, writing naturally is VERY important because it shows you understand how English is used by real speakers.

Natural = simple + clear + common

Easy way to check “naturalness”

Ask yourself:

“Would a native speaker say this in normal conversation or writing?”

If yes → natural

If no → avoid it

Why “recreation area” is more natural than “recreational area”

Because native speakers use it more often in everyday speech and writing.

So:

  • Recreation area = natural, common
  • Recreational area = correct but more formal/technical

Same meaning — different naturalness.
